Most original ideal i've seen in a while.
http://robots.net/article/2334.html
This quad-pod creates forward locomotion exactly the same way as an ice/roller skater does when going backwards. - by repeatadly opening and closing the 2 legswhile the free-rolling skates are at a 45deg or so angle.

Yamaguchi's creations are pretty amazing. I wrote a fairly long post about Onimaru and Yamaguchi a while back, and plan to go visit his workshop down in Shikoku later this year after the typhoon season lets up. The robot dinosaur he built looks fantastic from the photos and videos.

He'll definitely be at ROBO-ONE 13 next Spring, so you'll get the chance to meet him, and maybe meet Onimaru in the ring.

Lem, thanks for the link. I had seen your article and videos of Onimaru 2 before but it was a pleasure to go back and view them again. Absolutely amazing and inspiring. I love the grippers, the head and even the sounds this robot makes. Even the strikes are quick and coordinated. Really some impressive work. For me Onimaru 2 has to be one of my favorite robots.

:D
