Not much has been said about this so I guess i'll reply...

i've been keeping my eye on this one for awhile, I really hope it is something special because its the only hobby humanoid I can afford! but having said that, £200 for a 17DOF Humanoid with bluetooth and a camera?, sounds way too good to be true, the tiny size could also making hacking hard, and plastic brackets isnt something to be exstatic about.

Although bioloid has plastic brackets and I hear it is a very cool kit, so maybe just maybe this little guy will become one of the popular hobbyist bots?, less money spent on the kit = more money spent on the hacks

*edit* after closer inspection of those videos, the servo's seem a bit naff don't there?, hopefully its crappy coding or prototype flaws.

If nothing else, would give you some experience before getting a more expensive kit or building from scratch. Im game, as $250 is pocket change compared to $1k+

Hi,
Are thay still aiming for march 2007? I'm prity ecited about it after all its not that much money, that is if thay keep it at $250 USD, but after seeing what ugobe did to Pleo, I don't know if thay'll keep it the same price. (Pleo has gone from $200 USD to $250 USD and the release date has moved from August 2006, to Desember 2006, to March 2007, to Aprel 2007, sorry guys...)

Thanks

I think it was at robo-dreams that states it is in the final stages of production. It is targeted for 300 standard and 400for the one with camera and blutooth. After waiting this long March is not that far away. I just like to get it here in the US.

From my experience with the MANOI, if you COULD afford the $1K+, just save the $250 toward it. The MANOI is not so hard that you really need previous experience, provided you are truly inquisitive, detailed, and patient. Assuming there is little crossover on the control software, hardware controller, programming, and hackability, I am not sure what you would gain with a baby step.

On the other hand, if I could afford it, and the $2K+ was WELL into the future, seems like a totally cool little guy. Whatever you buy, GET STARTED. I started on a Parallex BoE-BOT and they are AMAZING for the money and addons. Little or nothing I learned transferred to the MANOI, however.

Just looked at the site again and realized this is "TOMY" and I used to have an Omnibot, their first robot MANY years ago in the 80's... That was actually my FIRST functional bot. I hacked the RC controller to accept parallel port PC commands from a PC...

This little fellow looks great. I will have to get one for the kids to use as they are keen but are a little shall we say heavy handed at times. This looks smaller lighter and more compact so may be better suited than the Robonova and RB1000 that they currently want to use..That said a Bioloid is probably the way to go ! lets wait and see .

Limor seems to have jumped the gun!

The video, photos, a status update including release schedules, and other information will go public soon - most likely within the next 48 hours. I'm just waiting on confirmation of a few items. 8)

You and your friend are in an open field and are confronted by a hungry lion. The lion starts to charge and it is clear you must run. What should your immediate goal be?Some say "Outrun the lion."Others say "Outrun your friend."

Okay - the magazine has put the photos and article online, so the video is public now as well.

Toyo and Sanyo have decided to co-market their products i-Sobot and Eneloop - a new battery deemed to be similar but better than NiMh.

Takara/Tomy in Japan and "Tomy" in the rest of the world since the merger in 2006.

The Eneloop batteries are really sweet. The i-SOBOT runs for well over an hour of really heavy use on a set of fully charged Eneloops. And, they seem to continue to deliver full power right up to the end rather than slowly tapering off like some other batteries. With standard AAA Alkalines it's around 30-40 minutes of heavy use, and longer with 'normal' use.
